Data and Reproducibility

The Andalas Law Journal is committed to promoting transparency in research by encouraging authors to provide clear and detailed descriptions of their methods and to share their data whenever possible. This approach is essential for ensuring the reproducibility of research and for advancing knowledge in the field of law. Our policy aligns with the principles the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) recommended. For more information, please refer to COPE’s resources.

Data Availability

Authors are encouraged to make their research data available to other researchers in a way that allows for the validation and replication of their findings. Data should be deposited in a public repository appropriate for the type of data and the discipline, and the repository should be cited in the manuscript.

  • Data Sharing Statement: Authors should include a Data Availability Statement in their manuscript that indicates whether the data supporting the study's findings are available and, if so, where they can be accessed. If data cannot be shared, authors should provide a clear explanation.
  • Citing Data: When data are deposited in a repository, authors should include a citation to the data set in the reference list of the manuscript.

Methodological Transparency

Authors must provide sufficient detail in their methodology to enable other researchers to replicate their study. This includes:

  • Detailed Protocols: Authors should describe all experimental, statistical, and analytical methods in sufficient detail to allow others to repeat the experiments or analyses. This may include submitting supplementary materials or protocols as part of the manuscript.
  • Software and Code: When custom or specialized software or code is used in the research, authors are encouraged to make these tools available to other researchers by providing them as supplementary materials or depositing them in a public repository.

Reproducibility and Replication Studies

The Andalas Law Journal welcomes the submission of replication studies, which attempt to reproduce previously published research results. Such studies are valuable for confirming the reliability of findings and contributing to the robustness of the research base.

  • Replication Policy: Authors submitting replication studies should identify the work they are replicating and provide a detailed comparison of their methods and results with the original study.

Ethical Considerations

Authors must ensure that their data and methods comply with ethical standards, particularly concerning the privacy and confidentiality of research subjects. Authors should remove any information that could compromise privacy or confidentiality when sharing data.

  • Informed Consent: When applicable, authors should confirm that appropriate informed consent has been obtained for using any data involving human participants.

Peer Review and Data Verification

Reviewers may request access to data or code during the peer review process to verify the results reported in the manuscript. Authors should be prepared to provide this information if requested.

  • Reviewer Access: While data and code sharing are encouraged, authors should ensure that any shared data are anonymized if necessary and that privacy and confidentiality are maintained.

Transparency and Accountability

The Andalas Law Journal is committed to transparency in research. It will support authors in making their data and methods available to enhance the reproducibility and integrity of their work.
