Authorship and Contributorship

The Andalas Law Journal is dedicated to upholding the integrity of academic research by ensuring that all contributors to a research project receive appropriate credit. Our authorship and contributorship policies are based on the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines. For more information, please refer to COPE’s Guidelines.

Criteria for Authorship

To qualify as an author, an individual must meet all of the following criteria:

  1. Substantial Contribution: The individual has made a significant intellectual contribution to the conception, design, execution, or analysis and interpretation of the data related to the research.
  2. Drafting and Revising: The individual has contributed to drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content.
  3. Final Approval: The individual has given final approval of the version to be published.
  4. Accountability: The individual agrees to be accountable for all aspects of the work, ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

All authors must meet these four criteria. Those not meeting all criteria should not be listed as authors, but their contributions can be acknowledged separately.

Contributorship

Contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship should be acknowledged in a separate section of the manuscript. Examples of contributorship that may warrant acknowledgement include:

  • Provision of funding or resources.
  • General supervision of the research group.
  • Administrative support.
  • Writing assistance, technical editing, language editing, and proofreading.

These contributions should be detailed in the acknowledgements section, and their specific role should be clearly stated.

Corresponding Author

The corresponding author is responsible for the following:

  • Ensuring that all listed authors have approved the final manuscript and agreed to its submission.
  • Managing all communication with the journal during the submission, peer review, and publication process.
  • Ensuring that all requirements regarding authorship and contributorship are fulfilled.

The corresponding author also acts as the point of contact for any queries related to the published work.

Changes to Authorship

All listed authors must approve any changes to the authorship list (such as adding or removing authors or changes to the order of authors) after the initial manuscript submission and justify to the editorial office. The corresponding author must submit the request and should include:

  • The reason for the change.
  • Written confirmation from all authors agreeing to the change.

The editorial board will review the request and may seek additional clarification if necessary.

Disputes

In cases where disputes arise regarding authorship, the Andalas Law Journal will refer to the COPE guidelines for resolving authorship disputes. Authors are encouraged to resolve disputes amicably before submission, but if needed, the journal will mediate following COPE’s recommendations.

Acknowledgements

Individuals or organizations that have contributed to the research but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be acknowledged in a dedicated section. This includes those who provided technical support, writing assistance, or funding but did not make significant intellectual contributions to the work.

For more detailed information on authorship and contributorship practices, please refer to the COPE website.
